Application Process

The program accepts applications via the AASLD Application Portal. Interviews will be held exclusively virtually.

Up to 3 positions are available each year, either through the traditional pathway (3 years GI + 1 hepatology), or via the accelerated pathway (GI + hepatology in 3 years; open to UCSF GI fellows only).

We are committed to a fair and equitable selection process in accordance with institutional policies and federal guidelines. UCSF does not use race, gender, sex, or other protected categories or proxies for protected categories in the selection process.

Requirements for Transplant Hepatology Fellowship:
  • Applicants must have successfully completed a gastroenterology fellowship in either an ACGME-accredited program, a program with ACGME International Advanced Specialty Accreditation, or a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)-accredited or College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)-accredited program located in Canada.
  • Meet the requirements for board eligibility in Gastroenterology at the time of fellowship commencement
  • Must hold a valid California medical license by the commencement of training
  • Applicants must be eligible for employment in the United States.
