Non-ACGME Acute and Chronic Liver Disease Fellowship

The mission of our fellowship program is to train the future leaders in hepatology through diverse, comprehensive, multidisciplinary clinical experiences in the inpatient and outpatient settings, including general and transplant hepatology. Our fellows receive outstanding clinical training through direct care of a diverse patient population, as well as a didactic curriculum dedicated to growing their expertise in hepatology. 

Clinical Training: Fellows will receive clinical training in the management of general and transplant hepatology in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Fellows will rotate on the inpatient primary liver transplant service and the inpatient hepatology consult service. The outpatient experience spans general hepatology, pre-liver transplant evaluations, and post-liver transplant management. Selectives across various specialties within hepatology are available, including addiction medicine, palliative care, GI oncology.

Conferences:  Fellows are expected to attend the following conferences/meetings:

  • Weekly liver transplant selection committee
  • Liver cancer tumor board which occurs twice per week

Didactics: Fellows will attend multiple didactics weekly including:

  • Hepatology fellows course every Friday
  • Transplant surgery M&M every Friday
  • Hepatology M&M every 3rd Friday
  • Liver Pathology Course every 3rd Wednesday
  • GI Grand Rounds every Wednesday

Facility: This fellowship program is based at UCSF Health Parnassus campus.

Application Timeline: Applications for positions beginning July 2025 will be accepted through December 20, 2024 (admissions are on a rolling basis with the last date being December 20).

Applicant qualifications: Applicants must have completed (or be in the final year of) a residency in Internal Medicine at an accredited, US-based institution and must be a US citizen or permanent resident.
