GI Grand Rounds "Health Disparities in Liver Transplantation"

Sara Miller, MPH, FNP will present on "Health Disparities in Liver Tranplantation". Sara Miller, MPH, FNP is a nurse practitioner who cares for patients with end-stage liver disease and cirrhosis, including those who are preparing for a liver transplant. She assists with presurgical evaluations and managing complications of liver disease.

Miller focuses on providing supportive care to her patients and their families as well as managing symptoms. She views her patients as part of her team and strongly values comprehensive care that involves their caregivers and family members. She believes that health promotion and disease prevention are the best types of medicine. She also works with patients who have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. She takes a collaborative, team-based approach to helping them make lifestyle modifications that can improve their health and prevent progression of the condition.

Miller is a co-investigator on multiple studies of medications for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. These drugs aim to reverse the thickening of connective tissues and scarring in the liver caused by the condition.

Miller earned a master's degree in public health at the University of California, Berkeley, where she focused on maternal and child health. She earned a master's degree in nursing through the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at UCSF. She belongs to the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
