How to Apply
The UCSF Fellowship Program in Gastroenterology participates in Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Instructions for completing and submitting the ERAS application can be found here.
Deadline for completed applications is July 31. Virtual interviews will be held on Oct 1 and Oct 16.
We require 3 letters of recommendation, in addition to your current Program Director. If you have had prior research experience, a letter from your research supervisor is desirable. Letters may be included in ERAS. Please include in your personal statement, some discussion of your career goals and of your research interests. We encourage individuals from underrepresented minorities to apply to our program.
Prospective applicants must choose one of two fellowship tracks: Clinical Educator Track or Research Track. Applicants interested in either clinical research or laboratory based, basic science investigation should apply to the Research Track. All fellows are involved in scholarly work during the course of their training but those in the Research Track have additional protected time for scholarly work and are funded by a T32 grant.
All applications will be reviewed by a committee. Applicants must be eligible for certification in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and must be licensed by the State of California at the time they begin their fellowship.
GI Fellowship does not sponsor H-1B / J-1 visas for clinical fellowship training. Graduates of Foreign Medical Schools please visit our UCSF policies page for more information.
All applicants to our program are required to register with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Registration forms and additional information can be obtained here.
Our Gastroenterology Fellowship Program will be participating in the preference signaling initiative.
We understand that applicants have a limited number of signals and appreciate the thoughtful consideration that goes into each one. While we do not require a signal to be considered for an interview, we will take signals into account as part of our holistic review process, particularly when assessing applicants with similar qualifications. A signal serves as an indication of genuine interest in our program and may help applicants stand out in a competitive pool.
Please note: Internal medicine residents currently training at our institution do not need to signal us, as they are automatically granted interviews.
We are committed to a fair and equitable review of all applicants and look forward to learning more about you through your application.
